What's Included In An
SRP Energy Audit?

SRP sponsors a energy audit and has a multitude of rebate programs available to homeowners.

Tired of hot and cold rooms, ever-increasing utility bills, or always dusting the blinds and furniture? Just like a doctor using x-rays and blood work to diagnose health problems, Green ID's home energy auditors use advanced equipment and technology to identify exactly what is causing those problems and recommend solutions to create a more healthy, comfortable and energy efficient home.

At Green ID, our strategy for performing SRP energy audits is centered around four cornerstones to maximize your energy savings and improve your home’s comfort.

Green ID's Four Cornerstones of SRP Energy Audits:

  1. SRP rebates.  SRP offers a great rebate program to help homeowners save money on their energy bills with rebate assistance for insulation, ductwork sealing, shade screens and high efficiency air conditioners. Your Green ID energy auditor will maximize your savings and take advantage of these rebates available to customers that have had an energy audit performed on their home.
  2. Supercooling. Supercooling is a process of super cooling your home during the summer, off peak hours from around 8 am to 3 pm. Then during SRP’s peak hours you raise the thermostat up to 84-86 degrees so the air conditioner hopefully never comes on and you avoid using lots of energy when your SRP utility rates are highest with the EZ-3 rate plan. There are a couple things we recommend when doing supercooling though. A programmable thermostat is highly recommended so you can do supercooling as a set-and-forget method. It’s also easier to do supercooling if you have a 9-5 workplace where you are not at home during the peak hours and let the thermostat do all the energy saving work. Also we recommend that your home is well sealed and insulated to keep all that cold air inside and not leak it back outside. Although supercooling can be done by both APS and SRP customers, APS customers must keep their thermostat at a higher temperature to 8 pm M-F. This is often not realistic and a major inconvenience to homeowners that want to come home to a cool house in the evening.
  3. SRP Utility Bill History.   An SRP energy bill analysis will be performed as a part of our energy audit and the more SRP energy bills you can provide, we suggest at least 12 months of SRP bills, the more information we can extract. Our energy auditors will look for baseload vs seasonal energy use, how you use the home and calibrate our energy model to your actual usage with this data. Although our energy models still provide useful information if customers are not able to provide 12 months of SRP energy bill history, we prefer to have this information before or on the day of your energy audit.
  4. Energy Vampires That SRP Does Not Have Rebates For. Although SRP has a great rebate program, there are energy vampires that are not covered that still have a big impact on your energy bills and comfort. Items that our energy auditors will inspect that do not have rebates associated with them are, ductwork design, airflow issues, water heater improvements, window film, wall insulation and ductless mini split systems.

"I had 3 bedrooms that were hot and cold and now they are beautifully perfect! I used to run my air at 76 all the time and now I run it at 78. I love my house to be cold. I freeze now more than before.

I had this work done March 5. March of 2013 Kw was 1031. March 2014 was 790. April 2013 was 1308 and April 2014 was 949. I had the ac on all of April. I don't remember if I had it on last year.

So far in May, I have not had a day over 35 Kw, which means I may end up somewhere around 1200 Kw for May. Last year in May we used 1980 Kw. That is a reduction of over 35% if it comes true. I expect to have at least a 30% reduction in Kw this summer.

Folks, this program works. It will costs some bucks but it will reduce your Kw and your monthly bills, especially in the summer months. My pool runs more hours and costs me less. My house is colder and costs me less. My house is worth more than my neighbors' and my home can be sold as an energy efficient home. The investment is worth it. I have a 2300 square foot home.  I have gas hot water heater, gas heat, gas stove and a pool. My current equal pay with SRP is $182. I expect it to drop to below $140 next year. . . maybe lower. Not bad for Phoenix."

SRP Rebates

SRP has several rebate programs that can get confusing as some of them overlap and each has separate requirements.  Feel free to contact us about any of these rebate programs if you need some assistance.  Some important points are that the SRP energy audit program is the only way to qualify for the SRP insulation rebates.  A SRP energy audit must be performed to get the insulation rebate, which is $600.  There are two ductwork sealing rebates, one is through the Home Performance With Energy Star Program (energy audit) and is $400 per system and one is for the SRP Duct Test and Repair Program for $250 per system.  If a $99 energy audit is not performed on the home, the home will only qualify for the $250 duct sealing rebate.  All SRP rebate programs are stand-alone, meaning that you can just get shade screens on your home and you'll be able to get SRP's shade screen rebate.  Here are details of each SRP rebate program available.

  1. SRP Home Performance With Energy Star (SRP Energy Audit) Program.  For $99, Green ID will conduct a SRP Home Performance With Energy Star evaluation on your home.  This gives your home access to exclusive SRP rebates for ductwork sealing, insulation and air sealing which are higher (or non-existent) in SRP's other stand-alone rebate programs.  SRP provides rebates of $400 per system for ductwork sealing, $600 for insulation, and $250 for air seal once that energy audit is complete.  Green ID will handle all the rebate processing on your behalf.  Homes must be older than 5 years old and each homeowner will receive a set of LED light bulbs and a water saving device for one toilet during the energy audit.
  2. SRP Duct Test and Repair Program.  SRP's Duct Test and Repair Program will test the ductwork leakage before and after sealing, similar to SRP's energy audit program and provide a $250 per system rebate for sealing the ductwork.
  3. SRP Shade Screen Program. The SRP shade screen program is a stand alone rebate program offering customers a $0.80 sq ft rebate to install 80% or higher shade screens on any south, west or east facing windows.  SRP does not offer any rebates to replace windows, install window film or window treatments.
  4. SRP Cool Cash Air Conditioner Rebate Program. SRP provides rebates for high efficient AC systems installed.  The SRP Cool Cash Air Conditioner Replacement Rebate offers customers a $1125 rebate for high efficiency AC systems or ductless mini-split.  SRP has a tiered AC rebate program, with a minimum SEER of 16.0 is required to qualify.  Single stage heat pumps or straight cool AC systems qualify for a $75 per ton rebate.  Two stage compressor heat pumps or straight cool AC systems qualify for a $150 per ton rebate.  Variable speed compressor heat pumps, straight cool AC systems or ductless mini split systems qualify for a $225 per ton rebate.  Let's say you purchase a 5 ton variable speed heat pump, your SRP Cool Cash rebate would be 5 tons x $225 = $1125.  Or let's say you purchased a 1.5 ton ductless mini split system, your SRP Cool Cash Rebate would be 1.5 ton x  $225 = $337.5.  To qualify for the rebate program, Green ID will perform a load calculation on your home as well as certify the airflow and charge are within the manufacturer's specifications and submit all the rebate paperwork on your behalf.

Green ID's home energy audits include a series of important steps:

  • Homeowner Interview- this is an important first step in diagnosing your home because it's your home and you are an important source of information for our advisor.

  • Visual Inspection of the House- to see where there are potential venting problems, window and sun exposure and typical construction defects that may lead to other problems.

  • Combustion Safety and Gas Leakage Tests- are things you will want corrected and absolutely things you will need to fix before your home gets tightened up or the ducts get changed out

  • Whole House Blower Door Test- to measure how leaky your home is and to isolate where the leaks are occurring.

  • Duct Leakage Test- to identify the amount of leakage that existing in the ductwork by measuring the leakage in the ductwork and visually inspecting the ducts in the attic.

"David was very professional and helpful. Ty did the work, we really liked him. We did not post for a couple of months just to see if the difference was equal to what they said it would be. They exceeded their own expectations. Our SRP rating went from bad (8) to a very good (2). We had an estimate from another home repair company. David did more work and charged less. Our home is cooler than it has ever been in the years we have lived here. Thank you for everything, David. We would recommend your company to everyone!"

  • Duct Design Evaluation- we look at how the ducts were placed and installed in your rooms to find opportunities to properly air balance the home or relocate or add new registers for maximum air flow.

  • Infrared Camera Inspection- will spot hidden defects in the insulation and thermal envelope we couldn't find any other way.

  • Utility Bill Analysis- your home's usage pattern provide a good indication of what's going on in your home.

  • Static Pressure Test- will evaluate your HVAC system, ductwork and registers to tell us how well the airflow is moving through your delivery system and if the system is being starved for air.

  • Pressure Test- will identify pressure imbalances between rooms that exaggerate dust and allergens, air leaks and make the HVAC system work harder than needed.

"I had my first home energy audit done. Michael took his time and checked for leaks, as well as checked for insulation issues in the attic. Overall, the energy audit took 3 hours or so. He found some issues with the insulation as well as confirmed a hot exterior wall with an IR camera. Next, David presented the results and suggested some fixes to address the things they found. David is pretty upfront and honest about what to expect and will let you know what's the best bang for the buck. He and his crew spent about 3 days completing all the work. My house had a lot of soffits that were not properly insulated. David and his crew either sealed them off or insulated the actual cavity. They also rerouted the flex lines, which instantly improved the cooling and heating to the problem areas of the house. They also added more insulation in the attic. SRP sent out an independent auditor after all the work was completed, and that person was so impressed with the quality, and said that these guys must have taken a lot of time. He went on to mention most companies just blow insulation on top, but David and his crew lifted up each fiberglass batt and blew insulation underneath, then laid the batts back down, and then blew more on top. This is one of the major reasons why it took so long. In terms of real energy savings, I compared my December gas bill to last year's and my usage went down 33% even though this December was colder. I can also tell that my house seems to hold its temperature better. I didn't price shop any of the recommendations but if you want a high quality job without any high sales pressure, then consider GreenID."

  • Water Heating Evaluation- looks at your temperature settings, feasibility for alternative heating sources and other energy saving opportunities.

  • Insulation and Air Barrier Evaluation- will inspect your attic for not only insulation condition, but how it was installed.  Poor installation or just a lack of knowledge by home builders and insulation contractors left many homes simply uninsulated.

  • Pool Pump Evaluation- will look at energy saving opportunities at your often overlooked, second biggest energy user in your home, the pool pump system.

  • Home Energy Report- summarizing our findings and giving you modeled cost savings from an advanced heat load calculation we perform on your home.
