Green ID to Honor a Veteran with a Free Energy Upgrade Worth $10,000
TEMPE, Ariz. (Oct. 23, 2014) – Green ID, a Tempe, Ariz.-based home energy auditing company, is giving one local veteran a free energy upgrade that will lower his energy bills by thousands of dollars.
The complimentary upgrade will be received by Allan Essex, a former corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. Allan—who was previously stationed at Camp Pendleton in California for four years—served in the infantry and later became a shooting instructor for new recruits. During the upgrade, Allan’s house will have its ductwork sealed, R38 insulation installed, sun screens added and a variable speed pool pump installed. Green ID’s crew will be working at the home from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 31.
David Byrnes, Green ID’s founder and chief executive officer, is pleased to offer the energy upgrade as a special token of his appreciation for the nearly 25 million military men and women who currently serve in the United States Armed Forces. Byrnes said, “Upgrading a veteran’s home to improve energy efficiency is our way of honoring all veterans and thanking them for their service to our country.”
Once completed, the upgrades will give Allan a more energy-efficient and comfortable living space—especially during the hot summer months. Essentially, the home energy improvements will equate to a gift of $10,000 in the form of $3,000 in free installation work, plus energy cost savings of $1,000 per year over the next seven years. “This is truly the gift that keeps on giving, as his expected energy bills will be reduced by 35 percent, saving thousands of dollars over the next seven years,” Byrnes said.
To identify inefficiencies in Allan’s home, Green ID will first conduct a 41-point comprehensive home energy assessment. The home will be carefully inspected with infrared technology, air flow measurements, and a whole-house blower test. After the comprehensive analysis, the Green ID team will create an action plan and implement home energy repairs that will save the veteran about 35 percent off his average utility bill.
Conducting the energy upgrades for Allan fits perfectly with Byrnes’s professional commitment to help homeowners capitalize on new technologies and research in building science. Byrnes, who has extensive industry experience and expertise, holds a Master of Science degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from the University of Arizona. In addition, he is a:
- LEED Accredited Professional.
- Building Analyst certified through the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET).
- Former testing proctor with the Building Performance Institute.
- Contributor to Home Energy Magazine.
