Don’t get me wrong, I love solar power and energy independence, but if you answer yes to two of the following three questions, going solar without fixing a potential major construction defect is like driving a Prius with a hole in its gas tank.
1. Do I have rooms with different temperatures than the rest of the house?
2. Is my AC/furnace system cycling on and off frequently (more than 3 times an hour)?
3. Is my highest energy bill more than $100 / 1,000 square feet?
Did you pass the test? If not chances are that there is a major construction defect in your home that is the cause of high bills and uneven room temperatures. These may be caused by duct leakage, insulation misalignments or an HVAC service issue. Having a home energy audit done will identify and fix common defects and inefficiencies that most homeowners experience.
